Last Minute Dirty Ads a Disservice

This past campaign cycle, we saw up close and personal, a rash of last minute ads against several people running for office.  This is nothing new.  Campaigns know that in the last week to 10 days, your opponent will probably throw every bit of ammunition against you that they have-real or imagined or told in part truths.  They do this hoping the other side won’t be able to effectively “set the record straight.”  (more…)

Keeping the Public in Public Service by John Maginnis

John Maginnis, in his most recent fax update, brings up an unintended consequence (or maybe very intended) in the new ethics laws.  It seems the legislature wants to pull every possible person that serves in anything related to politics, paid or voluntary, into financal disclosure.  While it sounds good…maybe…on the surface, I would venture to say the volunteers or those appointed to small boards are not the ones that have consistently acted unethically.  Regardless, it all sounds like some politicians are just angry because they are losing some “perks”.  As my husband often says, “they don’t get mad, they get even.”
