A Positive Step

Friday, January 30th, 2009

The Republican Party took a positive step forward today in renewing our Party, while maintaining our conservative principles. By electing Michael Steele, of Maryland, as the new Chairman of the Republican National Committee we have demonstrated our commitment to moving the Party forward across the nation, and providing a clear conservative message in Washington DC. I was proud to support Michael Steele and look forward to working with him in the years to come as we rebuild, renew, and reinvigorate the conservative movement throughout the country.

Sadow’s Argument for Closed Primaries

While an interesting proposal that Louisiana Republicans should allow
anyone not affiliated with another party to vote in its primary
elections for federal office, from the party’s perspective it is better
to leave the rules allowing only registered Republicans to vote. (more…)

Loyal Opposition

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

by Ken Blackwell

Now that the Inauguration has ended, it’s time to govern. President Barack Obama has been chosen by the American people to lead. The Republican Party must work to find common ground with the new President, and to support him whenever possible. But Republicans cannot sacrifice principles to do so. If the President wants bipartisan support for his policies, he must find solutions that do not involve asking opposition leaders to violate their core beliefs. (more…)

Shareholders’ Revolt

Monday, January 5th, 2009

From Ken Blackwell candidate for Chairman of RNC

I wanted you to be the first to see part of my remarks calling for a Shareholders’ Revolt today at the Americans for Tax Reform Forum with the candidates for RNC Chairman:

My friends,

I am advocating a shareholder revolt.

My Conservative Resurgence Plan proposes an entire new way of doing business at the RNC.

Under my administration, there would be a major change in ownership.

Rather than being run by a clique of White House operatives, and powerful vendors, we are going to let the sunset on present operations, decentralize authority, and move resources to the states.

We must change ownership to re-establish the RNC Members as the Board of Directors.

RNC Members are elected by the grassroots base of our party.

This is a shareholder revolt, and the grassroots of our party will once again be in charge of the RNC.

Close to Home

Monday, January 5th, 2009

I have to start this missive on a note close to home. I am in DC working to change the Republican party and return it to its conservative values. This morning I lost a 90 year old man who lived the Republican dream. My grandfather passed away this morning. He was a special man. He dropped out of 3rd grade when his father died during the depression to work to support his family. He loved God; he helped his fellow man; he tried to make sure his family had more opportunities than he did growing up. I remember the story of him walking his brother to school, seeing that big apple in the window in the store, and the little brother saying how hungry he was. But my grandfather knew that if he worked hard, he could eventually buy that apple for his little brother, so that he would have an easier life. While I’m sure all of his life he had a “D” by his name in the voting booth, he was an “R” in his heart. He knew he could take better care of his family than the government could.

As I listened to the candidates for RNC Chairman, I couldn’t help but think of the parallel—who really gets it, and who wants to wander a while longer in the wilderness. As for me, after listening to all of the candidates, I don’t want just anyone—I want someone who walks the walk. I want someone who sees the shining city on the hill—I want someone who knows what to do to provide the apple that the government will never supply. As for me, I endorse Ken Blackwell.

From Ken Blackwell candidate for Chairman of RNC

Today, I am truly humbled.

An unprecedented group of conservative leaders united behind my candidacy this morning and announced their endorsement of my campaign for Chairman of the Republican National Committee.  I will let the release speak for itself but these are some of the finest leaders in the conservative movement and I am honored to have their support.

Please take a moment to read the important release below.  Together, we can lead a conservative resurgence across this country and bring our party back. (more…)
