Scalise is Working to Stop Wasteful Washington Spending

httpv://www.youtube.com/user/RepSteveScalise#p/u/0/I75dLuh7TUU

Earlier this week President Obama released his new budget for next year. I join many Americans who are strongly concerned that this budget includes more than $2 trillion in new taxes on small businesses and middle class families, while adding a record $1.2 trillion in deficit spending. Just one week after the President pledged to present a budget focused on jobs and the deficit, he has sent us a budget that will destroy millions more American jobs and shatter records for deficit spending. it is an understatement to say that wasteful Washington spending is out of control, and must be reversed.

There is a saying called the “Rule of Holes” which states, when you find yourself in a hole, the first thing you do is stop digging.  Clearly President Obama, Speaker Pelosi, and her liberal lieutenants have not gotten this message, which was underscored by the voters of Massachusetts with the historic election of Senator Scott Brown.  In fact, these reckless fiscal policies and massive debt being dumped onto our children and grandchildren are helping expand the economic problems that our country is facing.

As we find ourselves sinking deeper into this economic hole, we need to restore accountability and fiscal responsibility to Washington. We need to cap the debt, reign in this wasteful spending, and most importantly, balance the federal budget.

Since Speaker Pelosi took control of Congress in January of 2007, the national debt has increased by 42%. In fact earlier this week, Speaker Pelosi rammed through Congress another $1.9 trillion increase in the national debt ceiling, mushrooming our nation’s debt from $8.67 trillion to $14 trillion in less than 4 years.  This national debt equals $41,000 per person for every man, woman, and child in America.  Simply put, this reckless level of spending and borrowing cannot be sustained. That is why I filed the CAP the Debt Act. With more than 80 co-sponsors, my bill will help prevent any future increases in the national debt ceiling, and finally move us closer to a balanced federal budget.

Scalise meets with Microsoft CEO to talk Jobs

This week I met with Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer to discuss job creation, technology issues, and proposed tax policies. Microsoft continues to be one of the most successful and innovative companies in the world, and has created millions of high-paying jobs since its humble beginning. I enjoyed the opportunity to meet with the CEO of such an American success story and talk about ways to create more jobs in our country and get our economy back on track.

Steve Ballmer and I discussed some of the proposals floating around in Washington, DC that I believe could do further damage to our economy, and we agreed on a number of ideas that can help create more high-paying jobs for hard working Americans.

Scalise, Ballmer, and other Members of Congress discussed tax policies and how tax increases would hurt the ability for companies like Microsoft to create jobs in America and could force innovative businesses to move jobs overseas.

SAINTS IN THE SUPER BOWL!

All eyes in the Who Dat Nation will be focused on Miami this Sunday as the New Orleans Saints play in their historic, first-ever Super Bowl. What has made this game even more special is the unique bond that has formed between the team and their fans.  It is exciting to hear all of my colleagues from around the country (with the exception of Indiana) pulling for the Saints. We have become the modern-day version of “America’s Team.” All that’s left to cap off this incredible season is a Super Bowl victory against the Colts!

It is an honor to represent you in Congress. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact my office or visit www.scalise.house.gov.

Have a great weekend, and Who Dat!

Steve Scalise
Member of Congress
